Window glass fails for a small number of predictable reasons — impact, thermal stress, frame movement, or simple age in the case of putty-glazed timber sashes. What varies is the frame it sits in, and that determines how the job is actually done. Aluminium windows are re-glazed by removing and refitting the beads and wedge gaskets. Timber sashes are usually putty or bead glazed and often need the rebate cleaned back and re-primed first. uPVC frames use their own gasket systems and are unforgiving of a poor fit. How we approach window glass replacement
Aluminium sliding and awning windows
The standard across every estate built in Pakenham, Officer, Clyde North and Cranbourne East over the last three decades. Re-glazing is a clean process when done properly — beads out, old glass and gasket removed, rebate cleaned, new glass wedged and beaded. Perished or shrunken gaskets get replaced rather than reused, which is where a lot of rattles and draughts come from.
Timber sash and heritage windows
Older weatherboard and Californian bungalow stock around central Pakenham, Beaconsfield and the hill suburbs is typically putty-glazed. Doing it properly means raking out the old putty, cleaning back and priming the rebate, bedding the glass, and finishing the putty line neatly so it can be painted. Rushed putty work fails within a season.
Double-hung and louvre windows

If a window rattles, whistles or streams with condensation, the glass is often not the whole story. Failed gaskets, worn hardware and dropped sashes all contribute. We look at the whole window rather than just swapping the pane and leaving the underlying problem.
Upgrading while the glass is out
Re-glazing is the natural moment to upgrade — to laminated for street noise on the Princes Highway and rail corridor side of Pakenham, to low-E for west-facing rooms, or to toughened where the existing glass never met the standard for its position. No extra labour, just a different sheet.
