Around the old town centre, Main Street and the streets running off John Street, the housing is largely weatherboard and early brick veneer with timber-sash windows that are still putty-glazed and single-glazed — the classic re-glazing job, often with a rotted sill or a perished putty line to deal with at the same time. Out in Lakeside, Cardinia Lakes, Arena and Heritage Springs, it is the opposite: newer homes with very large aluminium stacker doors, walk-in frameless showers and glass pool fencing, where the work is more often a cracked stacker panel, a shower screen upgrade or a pool barrier that needs to pass its four-yearly inspection. Being based here means most Pakenham call-outs are attended the same day.
