Plenty of glass work has nothing to do with windows. Protective table tops over timber and stone, replacement shelving, cabinet and display glass, glass for furniture restoration, bench and desk protectors, picture glass and cut-to-size panels for joinery all come through the workshop regularly. We cut to your measurements or template on site for anything shaped, finish the edges to suit, and toughen where the piece will be walked past, sat at, or handled by children. Anything with a visible or handled edge gets a polished or bevelled finish as a matter of course — a raw cut edge on a table top is both unpleasant and unsafe.

How we approach custom glass & table tops
Table top protectors
A clear top over a timber dining table stops heat rings, scratches and spills without hiding the grain. We use toughened glass with a polished edge, and clear bumpers to keep the glass off the timber so moisture is not trapped against the finish. Low-iron ultra-clear is worth considering over pale timber, where standard glass adds a faint green cast.
Shelving
Glass shelves have to be specified for their span and load — a shelf that is too thin or too long will bow permanently, and once it does it is finished. We size the thickness to the span and the intended load, and toughen where the shelf carries weight or sits at a height where a failure would matter.
Cabinet and furniture glass
Buffets, dressers, display cabinets, china cabinets and antique furniture regularly need panes replaced. Older pieces often have rebates that are neither square nor consistent, so we template rather than measure, and can supply obscure or textured glass to match an original where the pattern is still available.
Edgework that suits the piece
A flat polished edge is clean and contemporary. A bevel adds a traditional detail and catches light. A pencil-round edge is soft and forgiving on a table people sit at. A ground edge is the economical option where the edge will be concealed. We will recommend based on the piece rather than defaulting to one.
Shaped and templated work
Round, oval, D-ended, angled and irregular pieces are all achievable. For anything that has to follow an existing shape — an antique table, a curved cabinet, a benchtop with a return — we template on site so the finished glass follows the real shape rather than an idealised one.
Toughened where it will be handled
Anything at seated height, anything children are around, and anything that will be regularly moved should be toughened. The cost difference over annealed is modest and the failure mode is completely different — granules rather than large shards.
