Doveton has the oldest and most distinctive housing stock we regularly work in — a large concentration of 1950s and 60s former Housing Commission homes, many still with original steel-framed windows. Steel frames are a specialist job: the glazing rebate is shallow, the frames rust and swell which cracks the glass, and they need proper preparation rather than simply dropping a new pane in. A lot of glaziers avoid them. We do not, and we will tell you honestly when a steel frame has corroded past the point where re-glazing is worthwhile.
