Cockatoo's housing stock has an unusual profile because so much of the town was rebuilt after the 1983 fires — a large concentration of early-eighties construction alongside older survivors and newer infill. The eighties homes are now at exactly the age where original aluminium windows have perished gaskets, failing winders and hardware at end of life, which is the bulk of our Cockatoo work. It is also firmly bushfire-prone country, so replacement glazing has to meet the applicable BAL requirements rather than simply matching what was there. Heavy tree cover means storm work most winters.
